Many races have been suffering from racial discrimination. We can find many examples of discrimination against foreigners throughout our history.
When we hear the word “racial discrimination,” most of us think of Jewish people. During World War 2, Nazi Germany killed 6 million Jewish people. Why did it occur? After WW2, Nazi Germany suffered from a serious economic recession, and many german people lost their jobs. Because Hitler promised he would offer jobs, he was supported by the german people. In order to unite the nation and win the war, the scapegoat was necessary and Jewish people were treated as a scapegoat. Why were they chosen?
The first reason is that many Jewish people were rich at that time, and many German people were jealous of their wealth. Secondly, it was because they had their own religion, customs, and culture. Thus, they weren’t willing to assimilate into German society because of their uniqueness. Consequently, the German people hated them.
Another example is discrimination against black in the U.S.
After gaining its independence, there was a shortage of working force. Many workers were needed, especially in the southern area where the plantation was running. Slave merchants took many black people to the U.S and forced them to work as slaves. After the Civil War, the black gained freedom publically. However, they are not completely free yet.
It’s difficult for them to be a national leader even now. Moreover, black is poorer than white in general. This is why many black people have been suffering from discrimination. Though the U.S. is said as a country of freedom, is it really true?
We can find many examples of racial discrimination in history. Every time we hear about ethnic conflict, we feel sad. Once you have a prejudice, is it impossible to get rid of it?
